Heaven’s Lens

Do not conform to the patterns of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. –Romans 12:2

Many of us have been programmed to think and see the worst in people, circumstances and ourselves. Professional Fault-Finders; often wired from childhood to think and prepare for the worst. We are also best known as our own personal worst critic.  Even in the midst of praise for your attributes and accomplishments you can’t help but to find something wrong.

Then along came Jesus preaching, “Repent!” Change the way you think.  What a bold request; a request that goes against every fiber of your natural being. To abandon the way you’re wired and see yourself not as a “Hot Mess” but through Heaven’s lens…Faultless, Forgiven, Perfected and Loved. That’s challenging for some of us.

I suppose Heaven’s view would look like this:

I am not past, my addictions or pain.

I am a New Creation, the old me is dead and gone, the new me is here to stay.

I am not my sins.

I am Forgiven. My sins, (past, present and future) are Nailed To The Cross.

Forgiven and Forgotten.

There is no more condemnation for me. Sin has No Dominion over me anymore.

I am not weak, a victim or a failure.

I am More Than A Conqueror. I can do All Things Through Christ who strengthens me.

I am a Co-heir with Christ, created to do good works.  I am Destined to Reign and Succeed.

Enough about who I was, this is who I am: Chosen By God, Justified By Faith, Glorified in Christ and at Peace with God. No longer conformed to the patterns of this world but conformed to the image of Jesus Christ. I am the Righteousness of God in Christ. No longer a Fault Finder but a Faith Seeker. I am light and salt to this Earth. I am the Apple of God’s Eyes, the one whom the Father So Loved. I’m wired in Christ now and as Christ is, So Am I.  My Friend that is how Heaven sees you.

A Man Named Jesus

person at crossI was walking down a road called self-destruction, when I encountered a Man who was and is like no other. His name was Jesus Christ. He is a gentleman in every sense of the word. He knew everything there was to know about me; He knew me better than I knew myself. He knew the good; the bad and the ugly yet He never condemned me or made me feel ashamed of the bad choices I made. He Loved me…anyway.

The more time I spent with Him, the more I saw how deep and wide His love was for me. A Love unfailing, unwavering and everlasting. I’ve never felt this loved before. There was so much He wanted to give me, so much He had planned for me. Salvation, healing, peace, joy through His righteousness. He offered me freedom from my past and my pain. Forgiveness and the courage to forgive.

This Jesus took my heavy luggage, that contained all of my burdens and hurts and He handed me His. Surprisingly it was so light and easy. This was just a fraction of the gifts He offered me. There was so much more, more than my heart and mind can contain. I had nothing to offer Him except for a believing heart and a mouth that confesses and shares with others that He is who He says He is! Savior and Lover of our souls. This was more than enough for Him.

A Man named Jesus. A Man without spot or wrinkle who shed His righteous blood for the redemption of all of our sins, sickness and diseases. The only One who was willing and worthy to fulfill the will of the Almighty God. A Man like no other. He met me in my fallen state; touched me and transformed me into His image from glory to glory…to glory. Would you like to meet this Man named Jesus?

A Salvation Prayer


Then pray with me. Father God in Heaven, thank you for loving me so much that you willingly gave up your Beloved Son Jesus Christ to die for my sins. He took all of my sins, death and punishment into His own body and nailed it all to the cross. Better yet, He rose conquering death and the grave with salvation and complete healing in His wings. He did this so that I may become a son/daughter of the Almighty God, the righteousness of God in Christ. Today I receive Your Son Jesus Christ as my Savior and Lord and I receive You as my Father and my God. Come into my heart; fill me with your Holy Spirit. I say goodbye to the old me and embrace the new creation that I am in Jesus. In Jesus name. Amen.

A Mother’s Day Story-A Letter From My Mom

Seven years ago my Mom was diagnosed with breast cancer, it was a shock to us all but it was also a great blessing. It brought my Mom closer to God and it showed us both what it means to stand by God and His promise. When I first got the news I looked up and said, “God, what’s going on with my Mom?” It was a simple prayer. I was a child in shock seeking understanding from Her Father, to be honest I did not have time for a lot of words. God answered my prayer.

That’s the beauty of prayer, prayer is not a ritual. It’s not about grandeur or great length, it doesn’t require elegant speech. Prayer is a conversation with God, birthed from your relationship with Him. The only thing prayer requires is belief in God the Father who is able and a sincere heart. “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of Him.” -1john 5:14-15

I heard God say that my Mother’s diagnosis was not unto death but to draw her and the only thing He wanted me to do is stand and not waver. So I did and He did what He promised. God healed her and drew my Mom to Him and she has been cancer free for seven years and counting. Thank you Father God!

On this Mother’s Day I thought I’d share the letter my Mom wrote to me for my birthday, two years after her diagnosis. I have spoken with her about this and she is fine with it.

To my dearest daughter, this is quite an emotional letter for me. I thought I’d take this time to share some of my thoughts with you. This was the longest and hardest journey I have ever faced. I know that God has healed me, blessed me and kept me going, but you were my greatest hope and faith. You were the one who gave me the faith and encouragement to not give up. Your prayers and your constant reminders about how bless I was made me believe and strengthened my faith in God. There were days I wanted to give up and you never gave me the opportunity to do that. I feel that this, like you said, was God getting my attention. He did get my attention; I realize now how special life is. Now I try to live one day at a time and not stress and even try to enjoy life. In time I will do more to enjoy my life.

I just want to say thank you for traveling with me on this journey, for being my daughter, my friend and going the extra mile with me. I know I was a pain at times but thank you for not letting me feel like a burden to you. You gave and gave your time and never complained and I know I might joke around at times about us but I know you love me no matter what my faults may be. I may have not been perfect but I treasure you and have loved you from the day I found out I was carrying you. You have always been in my heart and nothing can or ever will take that away.

This is your Day and I feel so blessed that God has allowed me to see you if just another year. I pray I will be around to “torture you” in your old days. I know my grandkids gave me hope to go on but you gave me inspiration and faith to believe and for that I am eternally grateful. There is so much I can say to you but for now I just want to say thank you and I love you always.

I Am Not My Past.

I am not my mistakes.

I am not my addiction.

I am not my flaws.

I am not my pain.

I am not someone’s accident.

I am loved by God and nothing can separate me from this Love.

I am the object of His Grace and Mercy.

I am the one He sent His Beloved Son for.

I am the one who Christ laid down His Life for.

The one He shed His Righteous Blood for.

The one who He fought for, died and rose for.

I am the Righteousness of God in Christ.

I didn’t earn this Righteousness; it was a Gift from God.

A Gift given not because I loved Him so much but because He loves me that much!

While I was in sin, while I was indulging in my filth and rebellion, He stretched His arms out wide on that wooden cross and He Loved Me…Perfectly.

He took All of my sins, my shame, my sickness and my punishment and He nailed it to the cross.

Christ took my death and gave me His Abundant Life.

He took my place and gave me His Grace.

I am a child of God, the Righteousness of God in Christ.

I Am In Christ.

No longer defeated by life or living in fear of death.

I am a new creature in Christ, the old me is dead and gone.

I am a new person, a conqueror and an heir to the throne of Grace.

I am an Instrument of Righteousness.

No longer an instrument that brought hurt and pain to those I claim to love.

That one who blew up everything it touched and left a dark trail of destruction, gut wrenching heartbreak and deadly wounds behind.

I Am God’s Instrument.

A vessel that helps, heals, encourages and brings hope to all whom God puts in my path.

As Christ is so am I on this earth. Whole, Healed…Victorious.

I am a Messenger of Grace and Truth, seated at the right hand of the Father.

In Christ I can do all things through Him who strengthens, empowers and equips me.

I am a child of Light, no longer a slave to ignorance and darkness.

In me is Life, Liberty and the saving power of Christ.

I Am Not Influenced by this World, I Am The Yeast In This world…I influence it!

I Am A Gift to this world, chosen for this particular place and this particular time to fulfill a purpose that God placed in me at the beginning of time.

A Purpose that will Change and Inspire this Generation.

I am Saved.

Justified.

At Peace with God.

I am Forgiven.

I am Intimately Loved and Passionately Pursued by Him.

I’m worth fighting for and dying for.

I Am Who God Says I Am.

I… Am… HIS!

 

Hope For the Future Prayer

Hope For the Future Prayer

hope is...May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. ~Romans 15:13

Here’s the thing about Hope, it is the key ingredient of the substance that produces our faith; its our confidence in the unseen.

Hope is what saved us (Romans 8:24). Hope fought for us and laid its life down for us. Hope renews and strengthens us (Isaiah 40:31). Hope takes us to places we can only dream of. Hope never fails and will never put you to shame (Romans 5:5).

Did you know that our hope pleases God, He delights in those who put their hope in His unfailing love (Psalm 147:11).

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declared the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” –Jeremiah 29:11

This scripture was the seed of hope that was planted in my life and took root in my heart. It grows and blossoms everyday bearing fruits of joy, peace and love even in the midst of a storm. The funny thing is I didn’t seek this promise out, it came to me and it continues to find its way back to me in the most interesting ways especially during the hard times. There is a second part to this promise that is often overlooked. In it God says,

“You will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you, declared the Lord.” Jeremiah 29:12-14. Not only does God promise you a life and a  future you can look forward to He promises to be with you every step of the way. To never leave or forsake you. God is with you.

God’s promise is everything to me. It’s my lifeboat and my anchor. It’s God’s life-breathed word, His gentle embrace; it’s His perfect love for me. Lately it’s been my declaration prayer. This is what I’d like to share with you today, this is my Hope for the Future Prayer:

I know that God has a plan for me, Its not to harm me

But to help me grow and succeed in every area of my life.

Whenever doubt arises, I can call on Him. He will show me the path, He will show me His way.

God is faithful and true. God is a Promise Keeper. I’m not in this alone for He is with me.

I’m excited about His hopes and plans for me.

God’s plan gives me hope for the future.

Today, I take another step toward that future.

Who Do You Say Christ Is?

Who Do You Say Christ Is?

footprintsinsandThere is a conversation between Jesus and His disciples that I have been meditating on for quite some time.

Jesus asked His disciples, “Who do the people say the Son of Man is?” They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”

Then He asked them, “Who do you say I am?” Peter replied, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Matthew 16:13-16 NIV

Who do I say Christ is? To me, He is a Father, a Husband and Best Friend.

A Father

“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!” 1John 3:1

As a Father He is the one I came from. It is through Him that my identity is found. A Father who doesn’t see my faults; or holds my mistakes against me, He never points out my shortcomings. In Him is Forgiveness and mercy that never fails to set me free. Whenever He looks at me He sees greatness and all of His hopes and plans for me. He’s willing to do whatever it takes to get me there. When I fall off my bike, He picks me up and brushes me off. He tends to the scrapes and bruises and encourages me to get back on that bike and ride fearlessly. I don’t ride alone, He runs alongside me, ready to catch me if I fall.

He never ceases to cheer me on, He reminds me of who I am and what I’m capable of, He gives me the strength to pedal on. Once He sees you’ve found your way, He stands back with a smile, filled with pride and joy. When you’re hurt, He hurts all the more. He’ll fight for you, protect and provide for you and above all LOVE you with an unchanging love. His Love never fails. He is a Father who lives to inspire me and desires only the best for me and is willing to sacrifice it all, even His own life, to see me live life victoriously.

A Husband

“For Your Maker is your Husband- the LORD Almighty is His name.” Isaiah 54:5

As a Husband I am the love of His life, He wants to be intimately involved in every area of my life. He wants to know what’s on my heart and mind. He desires to share in my triumphs and be the one to hold me through my grief. As my Husband, He’s seen me at my best and worst, nothing is hidden from Him. He’s seen me flaws and all and HE loves me anyway. I am perfect in His eyes, a picture of Grace. Through good times and bad, He’s by my side and together we can get through it all.

He always finds a way to make me smile with a kind word, a gentle touch. He has a way of making the bad work out for my good. He’s my biggest fan, He encourages me to be the best Me that I can be. If He can give me the world, He would, but He chose to give me Himself instead. All He wants is to see me live life happy and free and reach every goal and dream inside of me. His love for me is real, pure and true. Death can’t separate this love. He pledges to love me forever and always, in this life and the next.

A Friend

“I have called you Friends, for everything that I learned from My Father I have made known to you.” John 15:15

As a Friend, He’s always there whenever I call on Him. “Call on me in the day of trouble, I will deliver you.” Psalm 50:15. He never gets tired of hearing from me. I can be myself with Him. He’s patient, compassionate and always ready to listen. You can bear your all to Him. My Friend is trustworthy and faithful. I can confide in Him and He confides in me. He never judges or condemns. He’s my shoulder to cry on, my Best Friend. There’s no envy or jealousy in Him, He wants the best for me and is willing to give me just that. He strives to get me to a better place, no matter how long it takes. After every conversation I’m left feeling strengthened, comforted and able to do all things because of Him. The peace He leaves me with, surpasses all understanding. It doesn’t make sense at times but it encourages me to take another step forward.

Who do you say Christ is? To me Christ is everything I could possibly want and need…and so much more.

When Jesus Praises The Father

Whether I’m feeling victorious on God’s mountaintop or discouraged in the valley, I can count on my praise and worship of our God to lift my spirit. Whether I’m enjoying a peaceful day in the Lord or in the midst of a stormy trial; when thanksgiving and His praise fills my heart and leaves my lips, the atmosphere changes. Somehow I walk away feeling a little bit stronger. I find myself standing a little bit taller and my faith in Christ feels significantly greater. It’s a strange concept. I often wondered how praising someone else could leave me feeling encouraged.

Imagine my delight when the Lord revealed the answer to this mystery through Jesus’ praise and worship of the Father in Matthew 11:25-30.

Jesus said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do.”

“…Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

An Invitation

Look at what follows Jesus’ praise, an invitation to rest. Jesus’ praise is also recorded in the book of Luke 10:21-24, and it ends with Him telling His disciples how blessed they are.

“Blessed are the eyes that see what you see. For I tell you that many prophets and kings wanted to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.”

I like what the apostle Peter says, “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In His great mercy He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade.[i]

It’s no wonder we’re transformed in the midst of His praises, for it ushers us into His rest. It reminds us of the Father’s unfailing love and that we’re not alone in this. I don’t believe God is seeking praise for Himself, scripture testifies to this. I believe praying, fasting and praise is how we submit our efforts to the Spirit. I see these signs of submission being received as a gentle tug on God’s garment. Like the woman with the issue blood (see Mark 5:21-34/Luke 8:40-48), our tug draws power from God.

Rejuvenation, strength, hope, peace and rest flows to us effortlessly simply because we desire it, we desire Him. It’s not a way to manipulate God into doing things for you, if that’s your intent, you won’t receive His gift. You can’t manipulate for something that is freely given.

Be encouraged children of God. In every situation praise Him and let His Spirit take you to new heights in Him. In Jesus name. Amen.

“The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and He helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise Him.”[ii]

Believer’s Anonymous

I was visiting a friend’s church where I was blessed to hear an amazing testimony. The guest speaker was speaking on behalf of a recovery program she attended. She began her testimony as most recovery programs begin,

 “Hi I’m Kat, and I am an addict and survivor of abuse.”

“Hi Kat!” the crowd replied.

(In case you’re wondering Kat is not her real name and I’ve left out some major details for privacy.)

 Kat had such a way with words; through her words she was able to give you an in-depth peek into her world. I laughed when she joked about her highs and I cried with her when she shared the intimate details of her lows. It would seem that she went from the pit to the palace and then back to the pit again. By the time she shared her triumph in the Lord and how He elevated her to a place above the palace. A place where she was seated with Christ on the right hand of the Father, everyone was standing and giving a wild praise and thanks to God. I remember saying to myself, “Yep, that’s my Father, all things work out to His glory!”

She gave thanks to God and thanked her friends and the program that helped her through the rough patches. Then she did something that saddened me, she ended her testimony just as she began, “I’m Kat and I am an addict and a survivor of abuse!” Even more alarming to me was the audience who clapped and said, “Hi Kat!”

My spirit was grieved, I remember thinking, “No, no, no, that’s not who you are, did anyone hear her testimony. She ‘s not an addict or a victim, she’s victorious! She’s no longer her past or her pain, she’s a child of God.”

I pray that no one is taking this as me bashing recovery programs, because I’m not. These programs are mighty ministries that have blessed and helped millions worldwide. I praise God for these programs, but her identifying herself as who she was and not who she is, grieved me. I heard the Holy Spirit say, “Wouldn’t it be great if there were a Believers Anonymous?” When I heard this I thought out loud, “Now that is a revelation that needs to take root in every believer’s heart including mine.


I believe we do a disservice to a person when we force them to hold on to who they were and not embrace who they are in Christ. When Christ ministered in the gospels He didn’t highlight our problems, He revealed who He was and what He could do and He continues to do that today. I thank God for the Angels on earth that God raised up to minister to me when I was overwhelmed by my brokenness. They reminded me that I am God’s beloved, not broken but whole in Him.

I Am Who Christ Says I Am

A child of GodNone of us need to be reminded of our past and faults. We know those old ghosts well; they still haunt us from time to time. The slightest thing will trigger it and when it comes back its like that cloak of despair the bible talks about in Isaiah 61. It just drapes over you and overwhelms you with a heaviness that takes you right back to that broken place.A person doesn’t need a reminder of who they were but they do need to be reminded of who they are in Christ.

Here’s a question for you: If God isn’t holding my sins and past against me then why am I wearing it like it’s the latest design on a Fashion Runway?

 “This is the covenant I will make with them…

I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds.

Then He adds: Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more.” –Heb 10:16-17

 In other words God is saying this is my promise to you, I care about the things on your heart and mind, which is why I am going to be intimately involved in your life. As for your past and your mistakes, I don’t hold it against you, consider it forgotten.

Imagine if we could embrace this. I did a word search and this is what I found. The word love is mentioned in the bible 686 times, see NIV. The word judgment is mentioned 158 times and wrath 181. God’s love for us outweighs His wrath and judgment. It was His love for us that came down in the flesh, died for us and restored us to who He called us to be. My question to Believers is when are we going to embrace God’s love and shake off the cloak of our past.

In this life I may feel pressed on all sides, but because I am the righteousness of God in Christ I am never crushed. The things around me may perplex me but He’ll never let me fall in despair. Despair suggests that there’s an absence of hope and as long as I am in Christ I have hope for Christ is my hope. Christ keeps me anchored in Him as He enters into the inner sanctuary of God’s heart to intercede on my behalf. I believe God wants our hearts and minds to embrace that we are Sons of God and we are not defeated. We are not our past, we are not our pain and even in those moments of pain we know that it’s going to work out for our good. Why, because the God of all Creation has claimed us and loves us with an unfailing Love.

Let’s not allow the voice of accusation to ring louder than the Love God deposited in our hearts. Allow His Word to play like an epic love story in your thoughts.


My prayer is for “Kat”, myself and for every believer out there. It’s Spring-cleaning time! Let’s throw away that coat of shame and wear our Robe of Righteousness that was hand-woven by God. Let’s boldly declare, “Hello world, I am a Believer, I am saved, the light of the world and the salt of the earth. I am an Ambassador of the Kingdom of God, I am Loved…. and I don’t have to be anonymous!” 🙂

Lend a hand in the Spring-cleaning; remind your brothers and sisters in Christ that they are God’s Beloved.

 

 

 

Blessed by WordPress

I’m learning more and more  just how much of a blessing the  team behind WordPress are. They’ve created a product that is user-friendly and they take all of the headaches out of blogging and web design. Our only job as the user is to write and create.

In my Web design class I’m learning about  the hidden source codes and commands behind the inspired thoughts we write and the artful graphics we display on our pages. There is a  great art and  science  taking place behind the scenes and WordPress has managed to simplify the process for you by doing  all of the heaving lifting (the source coding) for you.

If I want to place a bold emphasis on my “Title” I simply hit the bold button and type, but the code behind that simple action is written as this <h1> <b> Title </b> </h1>. Imagine how much posting we would do if we had to insert every code needed to express every thought we type  to our readers.

For those of you in ministry like myself, this mirrors the beauty of God and His provisions. If He places a dream in you, He is going to make the provisions, He’ll do the heavy lifting (the source coding)  and He will see it to completion.  But its a good thing to want to get a closer look and better understanding of the great Architect behind the beautiful design, the Vision-giver and maker behind the vision. You can do that by simply seeking Him and spending time with God in prayer and He will impart that knowledge to you.

This is a picture of what goes on behind the scenes of the web sites  you visit. The Christmas Quiz was a short post but a lot went into it behind the scenes. The more you think about it, it really does mirror us, only God knows the great work, the ups and downs, the triumphs and the disappointments, the leaps of faith and the days of doubt, along with the great gifts God gave us that went into shaping us into the individuals that we are today.

For those of you with an interest in designing from the ground up and are searching for reliable text editors  you can use notepad, which was originally downloaded on my laptop when I bought it. Its straightforward and easy to use and it was a great tool for me to get started with. Another great program is  notepad++ . You can download it for free, it has more features than notepad but it takes awhile for you to figure it all out. What I like the most about it, is that it keeps me organized and it fills in the codes for me when it is a code  that I’ve used before.  For me, that feature cuts down on the time spent typing. You can download Notepad++ and try it out for your self- try notepad++ images
