Seek and You Will Find

I’ve come to realize in my own walk with Christ that you cannot seek God and call upon His name and God not affect every area of your life. The beauty of prayer is this, when you pray you unleash God’s power and will into your life. He touches everyone and everything that is connected to you. Now God is not a bully, He doesn’t bulldoze His way into your life, He’s a gentleman, which is why He says, “Ask…seek…knock. He’s waiting for you to invite Him in.

I shared with my 17-year old son the news of me being accepted back into the Bachelors program after having to drop out twice. My son says to me, “I don’t know why you’re so surprised, didn’t God say that He was going to do it. God always does what He says!” To that I said Hallelujah!

A few months ago I was teaching my 10-year old about prayer and how she should bring her fears to God. Like most kids she confessed that the only thing she fears is her parents splitting up because she doesn’t want to be separated from her family. I don’t know why but I felt prompted to ask, “You don’t fear death?” and she said to me, “No, I know I’m going to be with my family in eternity.” My heart said, “Wow, glory to God!” I could not believe the faith that was coming out of a 10- year old child. I know adults who haven’t fully embraced the gift of eternity, yet my daughter does.

The other day my four-year old wanted me to play with him and I told him that mommy wasn’t feeling so good. As soon as the words left my mouth, he placed his little toddler hands on my chest and prayed, “Father God in the name of Jesus, make mommy feel all better. Amen.” To that I said, thank you God.

If I were to put a label on my husband it would be Mr. Revelation. He doesn’t spend the time studying the word, as most tend to think. You don’t see him holed up in his “spiritual closet” 24/7. He simply has the desire to know the heart of God and within minutes God reveals to him hidden truths you’ve never heard preached or taught before. It is amazing to see a man with no formal training gifted with a natural ability to read the “Spirit” behind the text and be able to understand and explain the most complicated verses in the bible.

Prayer Changes Things

Your prayer does not need to be high and lofty or of elegant speech, it just needs to be sincere. There have been moments in my prayer life where the only words I was able to get out in between my sobs is, “Father help me!” , and in those moments I witnessed the power of Heaven move with great authority in my life.

I’m sharing what God is doing in my family to encourage you in this, that every promise in Christ is a yes! God is not going to save you and not bless and heal your family. Your child is a “yes”; your marriage is a “yes”. Your healing is a “yes”. That victory you are seeking is a “yes” in Christ.

Don’t be deceived by what you see in this visible realm, even if the person who is giving you the most grief is the one closest to you. Don’t be discouraged for a greater realm is at work on your behalf.

Please know that you are “in Christ” today and every day that follows and that my friend is a position of greatness! Keep seeking; keep believing, your hope in Christ will not be put to shame.

 Ask…Seek… Knock…Pray! It’s an open invitation.

A Prescription for Anxiety

Got Anxiety?anxiety

I think at some point in our lives we’ve all faced anxiety. Whether you’re a parent, a business exec, pastor, politician or student you’re bound to get to a point where life and its tasks become increasingly overwhelming and when it hits you it’s like a vicious wave slamming into you from every side. So today when I felt the waves of anxiety crashing up against me I found myself saying, “Father help me, surely you have an answer… a prescription for this. Then I saw the words “Be anxious for nothing.” It just flashed into my mind so I picked up my bible and read God’s prescription for Anxiety.

Problem: Anxiety

Symptoms: (according to WebMd) : Feeling overwhelmed/feelings of fear, palpitations, shortness of breath, chest pain, dizziness, nausea, a feeling of being detached from the world, feeling unable to control the simple things.

God’s Prescription: Philippians 4:6-7

Do not be anxious about anything.

FAQ: How do I stop being anxious? Please see directions for use.

Directions: In every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Please note: this prescription can be used not just in some but in every situation. You can present ANY and ALL situations to God: the good, the bad and the ugly stuff.

Side Effects: The peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Before He was arrested, Jesus prayed for this cup to pass from Him but not His will but God’s will be done and in the midst of Christ’s struggle, scripture says, Luke 22:44 New Living Translation (NLT) He prayed more fervently, and He was in such agony of spirit that His sweat fell to the ground like great drops of blood.”

God sent an angel of the Lord to strengthen Jesus in His time of need. Now if God can send help to His Beloved Son whom He willingly gave up for the sole purpose of reconciling us back to Him, to make us His Sons and Daughters then surely God can strengthen us and help us in our time of need.

When you study the roles of a good father and a good king you find something unique that they have in common, their top priority is your welfare and whole-being. God gave up His Son, not so you can remain broken from anxiety, loss and fear, Jesus laid down His life for you so that you could be made whole, in every area of your life. You can enjoy the benefits, the gifts of having Heaven’s best, because that’s what you got when He gave you Christ, you can have it with a simple thing called prayer.

Now prayer is not a formal thing, it’s not a loud and lofty act, its intimate. It’s you and God having a heart to heart conversation, not telling Him what you think He wants to hear but what is truly on your heart, the good… the bad… and the ugly. The word says we have not because we ask not. Got issues, then ask the Great I Am, Your Father to move mighty in that area of your life.  If nothing on Heaven or Earth can separate you from His Love then there’s no situation in Heaven or Earth that you can’t bring to God.  Your loss, your heartbreak even in this He can give you comfort and understanding. Your worries, your struggles, your dreams, He can see you through it, He can show you the way.

Christ came so you can have an abundant life not a defeated one and prayer is you grabbing a hold of it. Question… have you taken your prescription today?

An Honest Prayer

A man in the crowd called out to Jesus for help, his son was possessed with a spirit that robbed him of his speech. Whenever this spirit seized the boy it threw him to the ground. The boy would foam at the mouth, gnash his teeth and become rigid because of this evil spirit. Jesus asked for the boy to be brought to Him and when the spirit saw Him it immediately sent the boy into convulsions. Jesus asked the father how long had this been going on and the father replied, since childhood and often the spirit had thrown the boy into the fire and the water in an attempt to kill him.

The father said to Jesus, “If you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.” “If you can?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for him who believes.” Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” Jesus commanded the spirit to come out of the boy and to never enter him again and the boy was healed. (Mark 9:14-27)

Many of us believe but often it’s our unbelief that keeps us from God’s blessings. We know it’s there, we try to deny it and pretend it’s not there. We try to hide it from ourselves and from God too, not knowing that God is a God who loves us flaws and all. God is a God who honors those who come to him in honesty and truth (John 4:23-24). The book of psalms said it well when it said, “you desire truth in the inner parts.” (Psalm 51:6)  God who is, “the author and perfecter of our faith” (Hebrew 12:2) is a God who wants to strengthen our belief and help us overcome our unbelief so that our faith may be complete in Him. So today I encourage you to bring every part of yourself to God, bring all of your faith, bring to Him your belief and unbelief, humbly come before your merciful King, flaws and all; give Him that honest prayer.

Father God we come to you flaws and all, we come to you with a humble an honest heart. We believe in you Father, we believe in your will and your works, it is our unbelief we struggle with from time to time. Merciful God help us overcome our unbelief so that we may be complete in you. Amen.
