Think Jesus

Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is  admirable—  if anything is excellent or praiseworthy —think about such things. Philippians 4:8 NIV


A young believer asked a group of us, “How do you think pure?” Like so many of us she was struggling with her thought life. Some said to this young believer that she had to get her heart right first before she could even begin to think and be pure, but in my heart I knew this wasn’t right. I pulled her aside and said to her, “You want to think pure then think about Jesus.”

Think about when you first realized just how much Christ loves you, flaws and all, before you even opened your heart and  mouth to receive Him. Or when you fell in love with Christ, when He saved you took you in-in your mess, your fears, your doubts and said, “You’re Mine, My child, My beloved.

Think about those unspoken prayers, the forgotten prayers, those not quite formulated (because it hurts so bad I don’t know what to say) prayers that God answered.

Think about when Christ healed you-healed your loved ones mentally, emotionally and physically. See Him on the cross, where He willingly bore your sins, took your shame, your guilt, your fears and gave you His grace, His righteousness, His peace, abundance and Holy Spirit. Think on that cross where He was beaten, broken and wounded –so that you can be whole.

Remember when you got that unexpected, undeserved blessing. When God busted open doors that was once shut to you; when He said yes when everyone else said no. My friend, think on those pure things,  not on what you’ve lost but what you’ve gained.  Think Jesus and then live like the victorious one that you are! Rejoice beloved child of God because your savior Jesus Christ who is able to do exceedingly and abundantly above what we ask and think says, “The best is yet to come!”

If Great Men Give Up

I had a heartfelt talk with my son the other day. He said, “Mom when I decided to take some initiative and  did my own research instead of using the info and links my teacher gave me, I failed the assignment.” He then asked, “What’s the point of even trying to do more or reach higher if I’m only going to fail in the end?”

I asked him what if all the great men and women in the world gave up after their first failed attempt. What if the Wright Brothers gave up after their first failed attempt at flying, then we wouldn’t have flight.

What if scientist gave up at their first failed attempt to create a cure for the world’s diseases?

What if Christ gave up after being, denied, betrayed and rejected, then there would be no hope in this world and hope is the fuel that drives us.

We need to take a page from Jacob, despite wrestling with God till dawn and being struck in his hip, he refused to let go, he had a spirit that said I will not let you go until you bless me and God blessed him and changed his name to Israel which means,(who prevails with God). Jacob refused to let go despite the fight, the setbacks, the pain and struggle (Genesis 32:22-28).

God has placed gifts, vision and greatness in all of us, we all have a purpose in life to fulfill and we can’t allow fear or failure to stop us “For God has not given us a spirit of fear (or defeat), but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” 2Timothy 1:7. Could you imagine what the world would be like if great men and great women like you gave up? I imagine it would be a world not worth living in. I encourage you to keep pursuing your God-given dreams and passions. Don’t give up.
