“He shielded him and cared for him; he guarded him as the apple of His eye. “ Deut 32:10
“…For whoever touches you touches the apple of His eye.” Zechariah 2:7-9
I can’t tell you how often I’ve heard and used the phrase “the apple of my eye” not knowing that God said it first about all of us. For me this statement means I love you flaws and all. Can you imagine someone seeing you at your worst and thinking, “I’d move mountains for you!”
Sounds too good to be true? Let me show you in the scripture just how true the Love of our Father is.
In the book of Numbers we meet Balak, the King of Moab, an enemy of God’s people. In an attempt to defeat them, the king hired the prophet Balaam to curse the Israelites, “for whomever Balaam blessed was blessed and whomever he cursed would be cursed.” Together they stood near the Israelites camp. Balaam warned the king that he could only speak what God puts in his mouth. What followed next would have you laughing out loud. Beyond Israel’s view Balaam stood and instead of cursing them he blessed them. The king tried his best to manipulate the situation. He thought perhaps if he stood over here, or over there; Balaam would then be able accomplish the task. Balaam tried it the king’s way but each time he blessed them even more abundantly. The king was furious for Balaam had blessed his enemy three times.
Hear the Father’s Heart for You through the mouth of one who was charged to curse you:
“How lovely are your tents, O Jacob! Your dwellings, O Israel! Like valleys that stretch out, Like gardens by the riverside, Like aloes planted by the Lord, …Blessed is he who blesses you and cursed is he who curses you.” –Numbers 24: 5-7; 9
Yes, Jesus Loves Me
Do you hear God’s admiration for you? You are the apple of God’s eye. The thing is, the Father’s love is not based on our faithfulness or our love for Him, it’s based solely on His. In the next chapter Israel commits harlotry with the women of Moab. Our God is an all-knowing God, so was He mistaken when He made His bold declaration? No! God saw the sin that was up ahead. Their sin didn’t put a stop to His love or halt His plans for them. While we were in sin, while we were enemies of God, He loved us and gave us His beloved Son so that we may have eternal life.
I know what some of you may be thinking, this sounds like you’re encouraging people to keep sinning. Let’s be clear , a person who has truly seen and experienced the Father’s love is not drawn to sin, he or she is drawn to Him. The more you witness that Love God has for you the more you fall in love with Him.Sin has no dominion over you anymore. Knowing His love stirs up a love in you to resist the things that once held you bound. Yes, you may stumble and fall but the love of the Father that has been revealed in you motivates you to leave your past behind and press on to the future He has in store for you.
Whether you’re facing trials, troubles, illness or persecution, hold on to this truth. You are loved and blessed by God. This trial can’t curse you or separate you from Him because The Father is with you and for you. No matter what, it will work out for your good.
I have to be honest, there are days when I fail at encouraging myself but God never fails to lift me up and remind me that I am the apple of His eye. His love gives me courage to persevere. The bible is the greatest love story ever told. With every word, every book, with every life story told, God reveals His heart and His intentions towards you. I’m sure you’ve heard the phrase, “ I love you to the moon and back.” Christ did one better. He loved you to the Cross and back. He loved you through life, death and life lived again more abundantly. He loved you Perfectly!
Happy Valentine’s Day God’s Beloved!
