Embrace the Season

Ecclesiastes 3 says there is a time and a season for everything and there is a purpose to it all. Your season may be Fall. There are a lot of changes taking place in your life. In Some areas, it’s all falling apart. In others you’re holding strong.

Perhaps you’re in a dry season. You’ve been stripped of everything you’ve worked hard for. Like winter; every area of your life seems bare, it’s going nowhere. Everything seems fruitless and pointless. What makes matters worse is when everyone around you seems to be growing and flourishing and you, you’re standing still. Like someone hit the pause button on your life.

I’ve had seasons where I thought I wouldn’t make it. Some time ago my life had just blew apart. I was on the bathroom floor crying and screaming, Why God? Why?

I heard God say, Wrong question.

I sat up angry and confused and said, What do you mean wrong question, I’m the one doing the asking!

Then He said, It’s not why you should be asking, it’s Who! Who is in control?

That’s a good question, I thought. Who is in control? Just because I’m having the worst day of my life, it doesn’t mean that God stopped being Alpha and Omega of my life. He said He would never leave me or forsake me. As far as I know, never means never. Good or bad day, He’ll never leave my side. He doesn’t take sick days, or pop out for a lunch break. My bad day isn’t the result of God being out on vacation. So as bad as things may be, I’m not in this alone, God is with me and He can get me through this!

God is a Promise Keeper. When I got saved He made a promise to me. He said that He has a plan for me. The situations in my life may change but God’s plans for me will never change. Things may rock me, but they won’t harm me. Things may be rough right now but according to His word I will succeed, I have hope and a great future ahead of me.

I made up my mind that day. Whether it’s the worst day or the best day of my life, I’m going to hold on to God’s promise like my life depends on it. No matter how it looks, I’m going to judge Him who promised faithful and If I struggle with unbelief. He’s going to give me the encouragement I need to overcome my unbelief. I’m not alone in this I can and will lean on Him.

What did God promise you?

Your fall and winters are just seasons, they’re temporary. Some falls and winters are worse than others. Yet we are encouraged by our Father who loves us and sent His beloved Son to die for us to count it All joy!

I have to be honest with you, I don’t enjoy these seasons but I can’t deny that these were the seasons that refined me. Where faith was built up and hope renewed. I learned how to tune into God’s voice in the midst of the lies and accusations of the enemy during these seasons. It drew me closer to God and I saw a Love for me that is beyond words.

There is a purpose to your lack, droughts and afflictions. According to His promise your pain will not be in vain. I’ve come to see the low points in my life as the fertilizer that prepares me for the fruit that’s about to come. The vehicle that carries me into my Spring and Summers. You may not be in that place where you can celebrate in the midst of your trials yet, but you can have rest and peace in them knowing that God is with you and for you.

Whatever season you’re in, I want to encourage you to embrace it. While you’re in it I want you to hold on to something that’s proven and true, He Who Promised Is Faithful! Embrace the Season. 🙂

The Father’s Heart ❤ for You

“He shielded him and cared for him; he guarded him as the apple of His eye. “ Deut 32:10

“…For whoever touches you touches the apple of His eye.” Zechariah 2:7-9

pink roseI can’t tell you how often I’ve heard and used the phrase “the apple of my eye” not knowing that God said it first about all of us. For me this statement means I love you flaws and all. Can you imagine someone seeing you at your worst and thinking, “I’d move mountains for you!”

Sounds too good to be true? Let me show you in the scripture just how true the Love of our Father is.

In the book of Numbers we meet Balak, the King of Moab, an enemy of God’s people. In an attempt to defeat them, the king hired the prophet Balaam to curse the Israelites, “for whomever Balaam blessed was blessed and whomever he cursed would be cursed.” Together they stood near the Israelites camp. Balaam warned the king that he could only speak what God puts in his mouth. What followed next would have you laughing out loud. Beyond Israel’s view Balaam stood and instead of cursing them he blessed them. The king tried his best to manipulate the situation. He thought perhaps if he stood over here, or over there; Balaam would then be able accomplish the task. Balaam tried it the king’s way but each time he blessed them even more abundantly. The king was furious for Balaam had blessed his enemy three times.

Hear the Father’s Heart for You through the mouth of one who was charged to curse you:

“How lovely are your tents, O Jacob! Your dwellings, O Israel! Like valleys that stretch out, Like gardens by the riverside, Like aloes planted by the Lord, …Blessed is he who blesses you and cursed is he who curses you.” –Numbers 24: 5-7; 9

Yes, Jesus Loves Me

Do you hear God’s admiration for you? You are the apple of God’s eye. The thing is, the Father’s love is not based on our faithfulness or our love for Him, it’s based solely on His. In the next chapter Israel commits harlotry with the women of Moab. Our God is an all-knowing God, so was He mistaken when He made His bold declaration? No! God saw the sin that was up ahead. Their sin didn’t put a stop to His love or halt His plans for them. While we were in sin, while we were enemies of God, He loved us and gave us His beloved Son so that we may have eternal life.

I know what some of you may be thinking, this sounds like you’re encouraging people to keep sinning. Let’s be clear , a person who has truly seen and experienced the Father’s love is not drawn to sin, he or she is drawn to Him. The more you witness that Love God has for you the more you fall in love with Him.Sin has no dominion over you anymore.  Knowing His love stirs up a love in you to resist the things that once held you bound. Yes, you may stumble and fall but the love of the Father that has been revealed in you motivates you to leave your past behind and press on to the future He has in store for you.

Whether you’re facing trials, troubles, illness or persecution, hold on to this truth. You are loved and blessed by God. This trial can’t curse you or separate you from Him because The Father is with you and for you. No matter what, it will work out for your good.

I have to be honest, there are days when I fail at encouraging myself but God never fails to lift me up and remind me that I am the apple of His eye. His love gives me courage to persevere. The bible is the greatest love story ever told. With every word, every book, with every life story told, God reveals His heart and His intentions towards you. I’m sure you’ve heard the phrase, “ I love you to the moon and back.” Christ did one better. He loved you to the Cross and back. He loved you through life, death and life lived again more abundantly. He loved you Perfectly!

Happy Valentine’s Day God’s Beloved!rose2

Completely Forgiven

christmas gift

I was bible study hopping a few years back. My husband and I arrived a little late so we thought it best to sit in the back of the class. As I was settling in I heard someone ask, “I know I’m forgiven, but I still have to pay the consequences of my sins and mistakes right?” It took everything in me to contain my excitement. I had to fight the urge to raise my hand and ask the pastor if I can answer that question and set my fellow believer free. I was new to this group so I kept my cool.

The teacher answered, “Yes, we still have to pay the consequences of our sins and mistakes.” My heart sank. I wanted to say something but I couldn’t. How do you correct a Pastor in front of his flock? How I wish I had that spirit of boldness as seen in the apostle Paul when he corrected Peter. Every part of me wanted to ask, if forgiveness is a gift, why do I have to pay for it? I tell you the truth not speaking up that day still haunts me. I wonder how many more Believers are out there living with this same thought. Saved but bound.

If I could turn back the hands of time, I’d ask if I could answer that question and I’d boldly say, there is No Condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus! If I’m not completely forgiven then why would God say in His covenant promise that my sins and lawless acts, He will remember no more! When God made this oath there was no one greater to swear by so He swore unto Himself.  This isn’t some human contract, this is a covenant, made by God and fulfilled by the blood of His Son. It’s unbreakable, irrevocable, its Truth, a truth we can stand and hold onto.

Is Sin greater than the Cross? If one man’s disobedience (Adam) can bring sin and death to us all then why can’t one Man’s righteous act (Jesus) bring complete forgiveness to all who believe.

How Saved Am I?

To say that we don’t have complete forgiveness is to say that Christ’s birth, death and resurrection was flawed. There is no flaw in God. There are no tricks up His sleeve or “fine print” in His promise. That would make Him cruel like the men of this world. There is no lie in Him nor does He make promises He can’t keep. He is a God of Love.

Jesus Himself said He came to set the captives free. What is freedom if you’re still living in fear? Jesus was beaten so we can be victorious, bruised so we can be healed, broken so we can be whole. I have yet to come across a translation that says He was wounded for some of our transgressions. Why would He endure the cross for part of our punishment and some of our sins? Christ became our sin, All of our sins so that we can become the Righteousness of God in Christ. Sons and daughters of God, God doesn’t sweep away the Righteous with the Wicked.

My friends in Christ,  Jesus’ work on the cross was flawless and He demonstrated His Love for us perfectly. That Love casted out any fear of death and judgment we had. We are in Christ and in Christ we are Saved and Completely Forgiven.

Confidence in Christ

The Holy Spirit enlightened me recently in such a way that it’s giving me hope during one of the darkest hours of my life. You may know the story well but I want to encourage you to take a moment to hear what Christ is saying to you today.

In the book of Mark Jesus said to His disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” So they boarded the vessel with Jesus. Some time later a vicious storm broke out over the boat. Imagine the disciples fright as the wind and waves violently tossed them about. The boat swamped with water. The thunder claps, the lightning strikes, skies so dark and cloudy you could barely see what’s in front of you.

There in the midst of it all laid Jesus, fast asleep on a cushion at the rear of the boat. They must have wondered how can anyone sleep through all of this? Fearing for their lives the disciples woke Him and said, “Teacher don’t you care if we drown?” Jesus got up and stilled the storm. Then He said to His disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” (See full story Mark 4:35-41)

In all of my studies of this story the focus has always been on Jesus quieting the storm but that’s not the significant part of this story. In my recent study I heard the Holy Spirit say, “Did He not say they were going to the other side?”

Getting Through the Storm

The book of Hebrews defines faith as, “Confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” Hebrews 11:1 NIV.

Jesus breaks this down even further for us. He says Have faith in God; our faith in Him can move a mountain. Note that Jesus is calling us not to have faith in ourselves but Confidence in Him who can do all things. It’s Him not you moving the mountain.

Faith is Confidence in Jesus Christ being who He says He is. Confidence in Him being the Alpha and Omega of your life. That nothing in this life is beyond His knowledge, ability and reach. Confidence in Him being the promise keeper. That every word He uttered to you will be fulfilled. That He does have a plan for you one that will take you to great heights and depths in Him. A life filled with meaning and purpose. That He heard every prayer and every cry and because you are His, ALL THINGS will work out for your good. Including the things that don’t make sense to you.

Confidence in His willingness to heal you and your loved ones, grant you your heart’s desire and set you free from the things that have kept you bound. That He will protect and defend you. Still the storm, tear down walls and break chains on your behalf. Confidence in His unfailing, unconditional and unshakeable love for you. A Love that cannot lie. A love so perfect and pure that He laid His life down and shed His blood so that you may live this life and the next victorious.

I believe the Father wants to take us to a place in Him where our confidence in His love for us is so great that when trouble arises, we don’t respond in fear and doubt but in Faith. A centurion type of faith that says, Jesus, just say the word and I know it will be done!

A faith that doesn’t wake Him in the midst of a storm but grabs a pillow and rest with Him. A confidence in Christ that is not shaken when things are falling apart or moved by the fire blazing around. A faith that holds on to Him who is with you and for you and can see you through the storm. You hold on because you trust what His word says about you. Your boat may rock, it may sustain some damage but you know that He who promised is faithful and You Will make it to the other side!

Follow the Promise

What promises did He make to you? I encourage you not to give up on His promise; don’t give in to the doubt. He is faithful, willing and His word is tested and true. Jesus cannot fail you. It may feel like you’re all alone but you’re not – Christ is with you. The gifts and call of God are irrevocable. Things may look dark for you right now. It may seem like you’re not going to make it, but Jesus Christ, God’s Love made perfect, says You Are going to the other side! 🙂

A Mother’s Day Story- A Letter from My Mom

A Mother’s Day Story- A Letter from My Mom

Seven years ago my Mom was diagnosed with breast cancer, it was a shock to us all but it was also a great blessing. It brought my Mom closer to God and it showed us both what it means to stand by God and His promise. When I first got the news I looked up and said, “God, what’s going on with my Mom?” It was a simple prayer. I was a child in shock seeking understanding from Her Father, to be honest I did not have time for a lot of words. God answered my prayer.

That’s the beauty of prayer, prayer is not a ritual. It’s not about grandeur or great length, it doesn’t require elegant speech. Prayer is a conversation with God, birthed from your relationship with Him. The only thing prayer requires is belief in God the Father who is able and a sincere heart. “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of Him.” –1john 5:14-15

I heard God say that my Mother’s diagnosis was not unto death but to draw her and the only thing He wanted me to do is stand and not waver. So I did and He did what He promised. God healed her and drew my Mom to Him and she has been cancer free for seven years and counting. Hallelujah!

On this Mother’s Day I thought I’d share the letter she wrote to me for my birthday, two years after her diagnosis. I have spoken with her about this and she is fine with it.

cropped-pink-rose.jpgJune 20, 2009

To my dearest daughter, this is quite an emotional letter for me. I thought I’d take this time to share some of my thoughts with you. This was the longest and hardest journey I have ever faced. I know that God has healed me, blessed me and kept me going, but you were my greatest hope and faith. You were the one who gave me the faith and encouragement to not give up. Your prayers and your constant reminders about how bless I was made me believe and strengthened my faith in God. There were days I wanted to give up and you never gave me the opportunity to do that. I feel that this, like you said, was God getting my attention. He did get my attention; I realize now how special life is. Now I try to live one day at a time and not stress and even try to enjoy life. In time I will do more to enjoy my life.

I just want to say thank you for traveling with me on this journey, for being my daughter, my friend and going the extra mile with me. I know I was a pain at times but thank you for not letting me feel like a burden to you. You gave and gave your time and never complained and I know I might joke around at times about us but I know you love me no matter what my faults may be. I may have not been perfect but I treasure you and have loved you from the day I found out I was carrying you. You have always been in my heart and nothing can or ever will take that away.

This is your Day and I feel so blessed that God has allowed me to see you if just another year. I pray I will be around to “torture you” in your old days. I know my grandkids gave me hope to go on but you gave me inspiration and faith to believe and for that I am eternally grateful. There is so much I can say to you but for now I just want to say thank you and I love you always.

Happy Mother’s Day to all Mothers and Mothers to be!

Hope For the Future Prayer

Hope For the Future Prayer

hope is...May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. ~Romans 15:13

Here’s the thing about Hope, it is the key ingredient of the substance that produces our faith; its our confidence in the unseen.

Hope is what saved us (Romans 8:24). Hope fought for us and laid its life down for us. Hope renews and strengthens us (Isaiah 40:31). Hope takes us to places we can only dream of. Hope never fails and will never put you to shame (Romans 5:5).

Did you know that our hope pleases God, He delights in those who put their hope in His unfailing love (Psalm 147:11).

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declared the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” –Jeremiah 29:11

This scripture was the seed of hope that was planted in my life and took root in my heart. It grows and blossoms everyday bearing fruits of joy, peace and love even in the midst of a storm. The funny thing is I didn’t seek this promise out, it came to me and it continues to find its way back to me in the most interesting ways especially during the hard times. There is a second part to this promise that is often overlooked. In it God says,

“You will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you, declared the Lord.” Jeremiah 29:12-14. Not only does God promise you a life and a  future you can look forward to He promises to be with you every step of the way. To never leave or forsake you. God is with you.

God’s promise is everything to me. It’s my lifeboat and my anchor. It’s God’s life-breathed word, His gentle embrace; it’s His perfect love for me. Lately it’s been my declaration prayer. This is what I’d like to share with you today, this is my Hope for the Future Prayer:

I know that God has a plan for me, Its not to harm me

But to help me grow and succeed in every area of my life.

Whenever doubt arises, I can call on Him. He will show me the path, He will show me His way.

God is faithful and true. God is a Promise Keeper. I’m not in this alone for He is with me.

I’m excited about His hopes and plans for me.

God’s plan gives me hope for the future.

Today, I take another step toward that future.

Having Hope

Having Hope

hopeI was in a very dark place in my life. My heart was completely broken, my relationships were failing, my life felt like shattered glass. It was useless picking up the pieces. I had given up…on everything, including my faith. Then an Angel in the form of my sister-in-grace reached out to me. She said she had a word for me from God.

He said, “I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

When my sister-in-law said this I laughed, I said to her, “My life is falling apart. I can barely get through today without crying my eyes out and you expect me to have hope for the future.”

She said, “This is God’s promise to you, I need you to hold on to His promise.”

“You have no idea how I feel,” is what I said to her, “you’ve never gone through pain like this before!”

“Actually, I have.” Is what she said, I could hear it in her voice. She was telling me the truth. We both went silent for a while. “Do me favor”, she said, “the next time you find yourself so overwhelmed by the hurt that it feels like you can’t breathe, I want you to do this one thing for me.”

“What’s that?” I asked.

“I want you to praise Him.” I remembered thinking, its official, she’s crazy! It’s time to hang up the phone now.

“I know that sounds crazy,” Is what she said. Whoa, did she read my mind? “But I want you to trust me in this.” She pleaded.

As I mentioned earlier faith had left the building for me, so this idea of having hope when all hope was lost and trusting God again seemed insane to me. But there was something about her faith and her confidence in this promise that encouraged me to at least try.

Moments later…

There I was lying on the bathroom floor. The cool tile felt good against my tear-stained cheek. The hurt raged within me like a vicious storm.

“I can’t do this, I won’t do this.” I argued, but I promised her that I would. “God I praise You, I give You the glory. Thank you Father, Hallelujah! It hurts Father, God it hurts so bad, but I give You the praise and the glory Lord!”

What felt like the weakest moment in my life became the most powerful and most defining moment of my life. The weight I was carrying suddenly lifted. I didn’t realize how hard I was fighting to keep myself together. I felt this presence that laid beside me and wrapped strong arms around me. Then came the peace that stole in like a gentle wind. It dried my tears and eased my mind. The headache I had that felt like an atomic bomb had gone off in my head, quickly faded away. My heart, though broken, somehow felt…cared for. I don’t know how else to explain it except to say that Hope came in. Now this hope was not a feeling I felt, but a presence. Not a human being, someone far more divine. I believe Christ Himself showed up in that bathroom. I left that bathroom with Hope by my side. I walked away feeling like I can try this faith thing one more time.

Things didn’t change in my life right away. I spent many more days crying and praying on that bathroom floor. Somehow I was able to hold on to God’s promise. Probably because everywhere I went I kept seeing or hearing His promise. I needed a new key chain and there it was, a key chain about having Hope amongst a bunch of goofy, non-Christian key chains. I’d turn on the TV or the radio and I’d hear Jeremiah 29:11. The word “hope” or the phrase, “hope for the future”, would pop up on my favorite TV shows, a commercial, a poster, or in a movie I’m watching. I didn’t have to fight to hold on to Hope because it was all around me. It kept chasing me down. It was as if Hope was fighting for me. Then one day I began to feel it on the inside and soon it began to manifest itself in every area of my life.

That was Seven Years Ago.

I asked God to explain the, “not harm me” part of His promise because what I went through really hurt me. He explained that He would never allow anything to come my way that would irrevocably damage me. Any pain in this life would only be temporary. He would never take me to a place beyond His repair.

What appeared to be a loss was actually a gain. I gained strength that I didn’t know I had access to, knowledge that I didn’t have before and confidence in knowing that I can overcome anything and do extraordinary things through Christ. Above all I came away with an awareness of just how great God’s love is for me. I can truly testify to who Christ is. I can now write and speak with a boldness that I did not have before that says, “God is not human, that He should lie, not a human being, that He should change His mind. Does He speak and then not act? Does He promise and not fulfill?” Numbers 23:19

My Prayer for You

I want you to know and grab a hold of this, God loves you child of God with an Unfailing Love. His plans and hopes for you are real and it’s going to touch every area of your life. You may be down and out right now but it’s not for long. It may feel like you can’t but believe me when I say that you can have Hope For The Future. For Christ is your HOPE! It’s an unshakeable, unbreakable promise from God. Signed and sealed by His beloved Son Jesus when He shed His righteous blood on the cross for you. Today I’m living that promise.

If Great Men Give Up

I had a heartfelt talk with my son the other day. He said, “Mom when I decided to take some initiative and  did my own research instead of using the info and links my teacher gave me, I failed the assignment.” He then asked, “What’s the point of even trying to do more or reach higher if I’m only going to fail in the end?”

I asked him what if all the great men and women in the world gave up after their first failed attempt. What if the Wright Brothers gave up after their first failed attempt at flying, then we wouldn’t have flight.

First flight of the Wright Flyer I, December 1...

What if scientist gave up at their first failed attempt to create a cure for the world’s diseases?

What if Christ gave up after being, denied, betrayed and rejected, then there would be no hope in this world and hope is the fuel that drives us.

We need to take a page from Jacob, despite wrestling with God till dawn and being struck in his hip, he refused to let go, he had a spirit that said I will not let you go until you bless me and God blessed him and changed his name to Israel which means,(who prevails with God). Jacob refused to let go despite the fight, the setbacks, the pain and struggle (Genesis 32:22-28).

God has placed gifts, vision and greatness in all of us, we all have a purpose in life to fulfill and we can’t allow fear or failure to stop us “For God has not given us a spirit of fear (or defeat), but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” 2Timothy 1:7. Could you imagine what the world would be like if great men and great women like you gave up? I imagine it would be a world not worth living in. I encourage you to keep pursuing your God-given dreams and passions. Don’t give up.

Just Let God

FreedomLet go and let God. I’m sure you’ve heard the phrase. For years I lived with the pain and old ghost of my past and then one day someone close to me told me to let go and let God. I thought to myself okay, sounds simple enough. I then went from one struggle to the next as I battled with letting go. One day I cried out to the Lord in prayer and asked Him, “Lord how do I let go?” He said, “You have to Let God.”

God revealed to me through His word that, “the battle is not yours, but God’s.” (2 Ch 20:15) and if you let Him, He will heal your broken heart (Psalm 147:3). He’ll give you, “the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.”(Isaiah 61:3)

If you let God He will help you let go. God will take you to a place above and beyond your past, your pain, your addictions and struggles and He will bring you to a place of happiness, love, peace and His abundance.

I then asked God, “Why, why would you do all of this for me?” He said, “Because of love.” “For God so loved the world (meaning You) that He (willingly) gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes (hopes and trust) in Him shall not perish (remain broken and hurting) but have eternal life (the very heart and best of God). –John 3:16

So how do I let God? You just have to turn to Him in prayer, give all of your dreams, your doubts, your hurt and pain  to Him through prayer.  Talk to Him and let God be God in your life… today and everyday. Be blessed God’s beloved.

Feeling Weary?

“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” (2 Corinthians 11:9)

Feeling Weary? Jesus Christ, the Word of God made flesh (John 1:14) says, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you (the battle is not yours, it’s the Lord’s) and learn from Me, for I am gently and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy (His work is finished) and My burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 NKJV.

Do you know why there is rest in Him, well according to Isaiah 40:28-29 and 31, “The Creator of the ends of the earth, neither faints nor is weary.” The word goes on to say that, “He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.”

Believers if you find yourself feeling weary cease from your works and effort and rest in Christ’s efforts and finished work, His yoke is easy because when you come to Jesus, who never faints or gets weary; you draw on and receive His strength, His unshakeable, unwavering faith, belief and power. Christ is asking you to come to Him and He will give you rest. Rest from your weariness, rest from your burdens, rest from your efforts, your struggles, your faith and belief and He will be your faith, Christ will be your belief, He will be your strength, He will fight your battles, He will be all that you need and more, HE WILL BECAUSE HE CAN.

Be free men and women of God, let go of yourself and your works, the word of God says that it is by His stripes (His efforts not ours) that we are healed. Let go, put your trust and hope in Him, knowing that He is able.  Give it all to Christ and Rest in the Great I am.

Let us therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish.” Hebrew 4:11
