Discern the Times

“Whenever you see a cloud rising out of the west, immediately you say, ‘A shower is coming; and so it is. And when you see the south wind blow, you say, “There will be hot weather; and there is. Hypocrites! You can discern the face of the sky and of the earth, but how is it you do not discern this time?” (Luke 12:54-56 NKJV)

In the State of New York lawmakers redefined marriage allowing same-sex couples to marry in New York. Thousands of protestors including several church organizations gathered to protest this decision some are taking steps to have this new law repealed. Earlier this week the East Coast was struck with an earthquake (a 5.8), the strongest quake to ever hit the East Coast since World War II. Later that same day weather forecasters announced that Hurricane Irene was on course for New York. I know what some of you are thinking, that these events aren’t related to one another, and the natural disasters are simply a coincidence. For me though there is just too much happening at once for me to believe that all of this is just a coincidence.  Now I’m not a prophet, I’m simply one who loves and believe in God so please bear with me and the message I’m trying to share.

Now before I go on let me make this one thing clear, this is by no means an end of days message for the bible says that there will be earthquakes, wars, famines and pestilence on the Earth, “but the end is not yet”. (see Matthew 24:3-14) What I believe is happening is not the end of times but the time for God’s people to boldly declare the Lord. God is angry Saints; the bible has shown us that when we violate His laws His wrath comes upon us and the Earth. God is not pleased with the acts of these lawmakers and now is not the time to compromise, or be polite, now is the time to declare to the Lord that the world may pass their laws and have their parades but as for me and my household we will serve the Lord. (see Joshua 24:14-15) Serve Him in your homes, in the church, in the boardrooms, the class rooms and the voting booths. When your City, State, or Country passes a law that violates God’s law or your school or workplace passes a new policy that comprimises your faith it shouldn’t sit well with you; we should be moved to fast, pray, create and sign petitions, get organized and boldly declare whom we serve not just for our sake but for the sake of our saved and unsaved loved ones.

Jesus instructs us to discern the times. Are there storms and quakes in your life that seem to come from nowhere.?Are there troubles in your life that cannot be explained? When Job went through all that he went through he was confident that he was right with the Lord, (see the book of Job). When we are facing life’s storms we need to take a “life inventory”. Ask yourself if you are living a life that is pleasing to God. Is there anything in your life that’s keeping you from reaching new heights in Him? When others see you can they see Christ glorified through you?

If you are blessed with the opportunity to preserve God’s laws and precepts, through prayer, fasting, ministry, voting, petitions or peaceful march, I encourage you to seize that moment to boldly declare your faithfulness to God and His laws. By no means does the Heavenly Father want you to act with violence or hatred toward anyone, hate the laws that violate Him not the lawmakers.

Heavenly Father we come against every law that violates You and Your laws, give us a spirit of discernment Lord so that we may act appropriately. Keep us aware of what’s going on in the world so that we may know when to pray and stand in the gap for our country and our loved ones. Also reveal to us the areas in our own lives that do not sit well with You, reveal these things so that we may live a life that is pleasing to You. We pray this in Jesus mighty name. Amen.
